Rancho Penasquitos Fire 2/06/09
Published in Untagged by cathy | Comment (0)Video of Rancho Penasquitos House on fire 2/6/09

Before I could even investigate on what is going on, I already had a bit of adrenalin rush. I started shaking and ran towards the playroom and took a peek through the glass window. As soon as I stuck my head out there, I saw this bursting flames about 400 feet away from me coming from the third house across my street. It was ridiculous and scary to see things you have never seen before except on TV!
I immediately, went back towards the stairs and yelled at my husband downstairs. The first time I called him, he was just like “Huhhhhhhhh”? The kind of a huh you would get from someone that just woke up. I got even scared when I went back to the room and saw embers, dark smoke and things popping from that fire. I screamed as loud as I could to my husband and that got him up. My throat actually hurts so badly right now.
My son just fell asleep so I grabbed him and my passports then stuck it in my purse and ran downstairs holding my son. I thought of the worst at that moment. I don’t have very much knowledge of how fires drift from one place to another but I know that those embers flying all over the place can cause them. My husband calmed me down for about a second after he came back from outside to check and see what was going on. We had a bit of drizzling all day and the wind were actually in our favor.
After about ten minutes of panic, I realize my house is not going to be on fire and we are going to be okay, so I laid my son down in the couch downstairs and followed my husband outside so I could find out more about the accident. I stood on the sidewalk for about ten minutes and finally heard that everyone was safe except for two dogs that were missing. I hope the dogs are okay too. It is too chaotic right now outside and I actually feel okay now. As I type this, firefighters are still out in front of my house trying to contain the fire. Almost everyone that I know in my neighborhood is standing at the sidewalk looking at the fire right now. There are still flames that I could see from the top of the roof and the firefighters are working very hard.
I have met the owner of that house a few times when he comes around when we have party here. I heard he is a lead singer for a band that is on the rise. I am not sure what is his name or the band’s name. I find out tomorrow☺
I think I can go back lying down in bed assured that I won’t get burnt tonight! Otherwise, I'll stay up working on my websites and peek through the window every 5 minutes to check of the firemen. Here a quick video I took from the playroom where I first saw the bursting flames.
Search Engine Optimization Frustrations
Published in Untagged by cathy | Comment (0)Struggling to get good ranking in most search engines
It is well established that if you have an e-commerce website but cannot be seen on the first page of SERPs, it is basically considered dead. Conversion rate is zero percent and you just don’t make any sale. For months, I had been reading and reading this supposedly “useful” book that I got from Amazon. It doesn’t seem to do any good to me because my website gets five unique visitors per week! How awful is this compare to those search engine optimizer tycoons.
So what do I do to get decent traffic to my website? First thing that came up to my mind is use money! I must have spent about five hundred dollars on Google ad words in a month but haven’t gotten one sale. I just basically threw 500 bucks away for nothing. I got about 10,000 impressions on certain keyword I chose and about 500 clicks with 70% bounce rate!
Sighh! I don’t think I am going to make a living having an e-commerce website nowadays. Competition is fierce and if you are new to the field, you’ll find yourself all the way to the bottom or even nowhere! This is just I of course whining because I lost some bucks trying to get up there. It sucks a lot and I hope to develop a good technology and formula to get my website rank on the first page of search results. I although have a feeling that this will take me months if not years to get what I wanted.
I have considered hiring an SEO company but guess what, they overloaded my website with bullshit links. “Ma’am we will guarantee 100-250 links per month on your website to boost exposure and therefore getting much more traffic”. Thank god I realized this as soon as I got done reading the Webmaster tools guidelines from Google’s website. I felt terribly sorry for those website owners that they charged 1000 a month promising that they will appear on the first page of SERPs for whatever keyword they chose.
Finally, here are my frustrations and suggestions on what not to do as I have learned it the VERY hard and EXPENSIVE way:
- Do not sign up with Google ad words – JUST YET
- Be very careful with SEO Company you choose if you go this route.
- Educate yourself about SEO so you don’t stumble upon something so sour that will disappoint your endeavor with online marketing forever.
Now I am sure there are a lot of people out there that will contest about signing up with Google ad words but at this point I don’t really care much. I am just mad that I gambled the money for a “could have been predictable” outcome if only I read more articles about ranking your website before doing it.
